Self-reported diagnoses of noncancerous conditions are collected from participants through periodic follow-ups and correspondence with the Sister Study Helpdesk via telephone or e-mail.

Initial reports of death are primarily from participants’ next-of-kin or designated contact persons. Information on participant’s death and causes of death is confirmed by linkage to the National Death Index (NDI Plus) and death certificates if shared by next-of-kin or designated contact persons.
